Crackle Glass

In jewellery making, crackle glass beads get their name from the process that actually creates the crackle glass.

What happens is that molten balls of glass are very briefly plunged into cold water.  This causes the outer "skin" of the glass to crack.  This may be repeated several times to get the desired effect.

It's not just beads for jewellery making that crackle glass is used for.  Paperweights, vases, bowls - you name it have been made from crackle glass.  But for what we're interested in, it's a fairly simple process.

Molten beads of different coloured glass are immersed into cold water for short while and then allowed to cool naturally.  They then become the beads that you use in your jewellery making.
