Freshwater Pearls

Pearls made into jewellery have long since been a favourite for women.  They can look beautiful and offer up a natural sheen against your skin.

In simple terms Freshwater pearls are a kind of pearl that comes from freshwater mussels.  Natural freshwater pearls occur  because a foreign body, usually a sharp object or parasite, enters a mussel and cannot be expelled.  To reduce irritation, the mollusk coats the intruder with the same secretion it uses for shell-building.

A cultured pearl is any pearl grown with the influence of human intervention.
